The abdominoplasty is a type of plastic surgery. Hence, the surgeons who perform this surgery are a special class of plastic surgeons. The abdominoplasty procedure involves a major surgery and complications related to it. Therefore, accordingly care is required to be taken during the surgery as well as after the surgery. This type of plastic surgery is regarded to be more complicated than the other cosmetic surgical procedures. Therefore, abdominoplasty surgeons are similar to plastic surgeons, who are especially trained for such procedures.
To become an abdominoplasty surgeon you need to undergo training in plastic surgery. There are special courses available for becoming plastic surgeons. For you to be eligible for these courses, you would need to have a bachelor's degree in medicine. This should be either 3 or 4 years. In some of the institutes, the duration of this course may be higher than this. After this, you would have to undergo a residency and then the specialization courses for the plastic surgery and the abdominoplasty. All this would require around 6 - 7 years. Consequently, in total you would require a time of around 9 to 12 years after the high school. After you complete the procedure, you will get the certification from the board of plastic surgery. Only after you get this certification you can practice abdominoplasty surgery.
However, becoming abdominoplasty surgeon is a difficult and long process. As the procedure is complicated, you should have the skills required for it. The training would involve the training for performing the surgery as well as all the other factors related to the surgery. These factors include the after care for the patient and the side effects, which may occur.
The duties of the abdominoplasty surgeon as the other surgeons include, studying the case and accordingly deciding over the surgery. Then they should perform the complete surgery. After the surgery, the patient feels some after effects of the surgery as the pain, discomfort, swelling etc. During this, it is very important to give the patient the right medication to reduce these effects. This is important because even after the surgery care and medication is very essential in abdominoplasty surgery. They should also know and should be able to treat the side effects that can occur. Even then, this is a good field to opt for. The abdominoplasty surgeons are in great demand in world. Today the plastic surgery and the abdominoplasty surgery are very commonly done in the world. The abdominoplasty surgeons can get jobs in hospitals clinics or they can also start their own clinics. Therefore, you will not need to search much for the job. However, for getting the job, the certification from the board of plastic surgery is very important. Roughly, a plastic abdominoplasty plastic surgeon can earn around US $ 300,000. As this field involves a major surgery, gaining some experience would be a great advantage. According to the experience and skills, the income can be higher or lower.
